The German Influence
I was very intrigued reading this article, since I am majorly German in my descent. I never knew that there were terms given to the different Germans that immigrated to the United States. The only group I had heard of was the Pennsylvania Dutch. The Turners, Forty-Eighters, and Freethinkers were completely new to me. It is quite interesting how Germans wanted to live in wooded areas, since I am also fond of wooded areas. It is interesting to see how much German heritage had an effect on the American fabric. Germany was the first to create kindergarten and in America several parochial schools appeared based on these pretenses inspired by German creations.
