I was certainly surprised to read that over15% of Americans are of German descent, and that percentage of people with German ancestry in America is greater than those with Irish ancestry. Irish holidays and celebrations like St. Patricks’ Day have become dominant in the United States, and I assumed it was because Irish people represented the majority of the United States Population. Being from New York, I also assumed it was the other way around because most of my friends were Irish. Of course I know now that many people from Ireland immigrated to small cities on the northeast, while Germans, being attracted to land, immigrated to more the Midwest.
