This 50 page overview of american-german history was quite the page turner. It brought to my attention the lack of acknowledgment for german influence on American society and all the unnoticed effects that occur in everyday life. While I am buying a frankfurter at the SF Giants game, attending Oktoberfest, or, of equal importance, attending kindergarten, I can look back and say, danke Deutchland! Thanks for my childhood obsession with Sound of Music, singing along with Brigadoon, and for the small, odd shaped dachshunds (without which those pups would be stuck with "wiener dog" permanently).

While I was intrigued by the the history of migration to woodland Wisconsin, mass relocation in spicy Texas, and everything in-between, what I found most captivating was the musical influence. While classically, America has received work from some of the greatest composers, such as Schubert, Schumann, Wolfe, ect., I did not begin to consider other genres.

I researched the band, F.S.K., mentioned in the article, and found their music extremely agreeable and mellow. Although the text hard to follow. Most importantly I was led to a song called "I Wish I Could Sprechen Sie Deutch"..\

I came in to Deutschland and what did I find

I met with some GIs' in Frankfurt last night
they were out on a spree that was plain
I followed them into a joint down in town
to famous to mention its name
Oh maybe I'm crazy or mabye I'm not
A night in jailhouse was all that i got


I must have said something that meant something else
the policemen just made me that choice
