AMD 1

For my first AMD, I took time to analyze the score of my german leader, An Die Musik by Franz Schubert. Schubert is a famous composer, raised in Vienna, he created some of the greatest leader masterpieces as well as phenomenal symphonies until his death at age 31. This text is by his dear friend Franz von Schober.
The lyrics are:

Du holde Kunst, in wieviel grauen Stunden,
Wo mich des Lebens wilder Kreis umstrickt,
Hast du mein Herz zu warmer Lieb' entzunden,
Hast mich in eine beßre Welt entrückt!

Oft hat ein Seufzer, deiner Harf' entflossen,
Ein süßer, heiliger Akkord von dir
Den Himmel beßrer Zeiten mir erschlossen,
Du holde Kunst, ich danke dir dafür!

While I do not possess the skills to completely transcribe this art song, or totally understand its literal meaning, I find I can realize its message and can pick out certain words. I am able to decipher between nouns and verbs, as well as sift out the conjugations of sein. After reading its poetic translation, I hope I can come back to this piece after the semester and not only translate it word for word (which I have done with a dictionary) but put it into context and perform it with true understanding.
